In the documentary Ohne Halt (Adrift) we approach the issue of barebacking in an open-minded and neutral way. We show the dilemma of lust and responsibility, because this theme is universally valid. Still we would like to highlight the protagonists' individual approach to the issue bareback and show different perspectives in this regard.
The storyboard is episodical and multi-layered, with intermingling strands due to locations that are visited by many barebackers or on the basis of common grounds concerning barebacking. Each strand starts with the exposition of status quo. That means, we highlight each protagonist's position in life and how his actual situation is related to barebacking.
We will accompany the protagonists in their everyday life and show interviews in which the protagonists talk about their personal "barebacking history" and their attitude to barebacking.
At the same time we look retrospectively at the topic and trace the protagonists' way to barebacking by visiting locations, and by interviewing their friends and relatives. HIV will be relevant for the plot as two of the protagonists are HIV positive.
Our aim is to highlight as many aspects of barebacking as possible, to contrast them without evaluating them. Nevertheless we take a firm stand regarding the topic.
